A number of significant ATP Head-to-Head matches have been fought between the Nos. 15 and No. 16 players in the ATP Rankings in the last year, including the Australian Open quarterfinals and the US Open fourth round. Paul got his retribution on Saturday night after Shelton had prevailed in their previous two matchups.

In the first game of the match, Paul threatened Shelton’s serve, setting the tone. Although he could not break right away, the 26-year-old shown that he could threaten the lefty’s delivery.

“H is a really hard player. “His serve is simply amazing,” Paul said after the all-American match. “These courts do assist me somewhat. They sort of kept the ball in my striking zone a little bit more since they’re not leaping quite as high as some of the other courts we’ve played on.

However, I was aware that I needed to play a lot of balls on the court. The secret is that you have to withhold nothing from him or he will take advantage. Although I didn’t serve as well as I would have liked, I felt like I did a pretty decent job of it and managed to win a lot of those service games, so that was very important.

According to ATP Stats, 2021 Stockholm winner Paul has a carefree attitude on the court, saving all three of his break points and winning 44% of his return points.

Paul’s opponent for the prize on Sunday is his fellow countryman Marcos Giron. Giron advanced to his second ATP Tour final after defeating the fourth seed and in-form lefty Adrian Mannarino, 6-1, 6-3.

After defeating top seed Frances Tiafoe in straight sets on Thursday, it was his second straight upset.
