“I’ve been singing for 54 years, and I owe all of this to my family and the Indian community, who have always encouraged and supported me. It has been a long and treasured journey from being an ordinary person from a middle-class family performing in a nightclub to receiving the Padma Bhushan. Nothing greater, I don’t believe, could have been asked for. She said, “I also want to thank all the other awardees for their outstanding accomplishments.

According to Uthup, this recognition carries a great deal of responsibility. It will only motivate me to provide my best work. I hope I can go on performing with the same vigor and passion that I have for a very long time. The singer said, “I think I have a lot more to offer the public and I hope I can keep entertaining the people.

With a career spanning more than 50 years, Uthup is a unique artist in Indian music who has adapted to changing periods and fashions to remain relevant to several generations throughout time. “When people ask me what kind of music I perform, I tell them that I am a people’s vocalist. It’s very amazing, especially considering how many different languages you’re singing in. For example, yesterday night I was doing a performance at Symbiosis in Pune. I was singing Western music when I saw some Tamil folks in the audience. I struck up a conversation with them right away by changing to “Bampara kannaale kaadhal sangathi sonnale.” I basically created it show by show; I didn’t plan any of this,” the woman said.

Uthup has sung in a variety of languages, including Hindi, Bangla, Assamese, Gujarati, Tamil, and Malayalam, in addition to jazz, folk, pop, and rock. She has performed in eight foreign languages and seventeen Indian languages altogether. It’s not just for documentation. I sing in all of these languages on a regular basis,” the performer said.

The vocalist ends by expressing her pride in her Indian heritage, adding, “Being Indian is always advantageous because we have so many different religions, castes, and languages.” The most remarkable thing about my formative years was that I was unaware of their differences. I’ve never thought that religions vary from one another. I’m Hindu, went to a Christian school, and was raised in a Muslim area. For us, religion was never important.
